AACPL Officials Announce Two Library Employees Test Positive for COVID-19
Exposure Believed to Have Occurred After Employees Last in Buildings, No Increased Risk for Staff, Customers
Annapolis, Md., (October 5, 2020) - The Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL), in consultation with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, today responded to the finding that a Severna Park Library employee tested positive for COVID-19. The library staffer was not symptomatic while at work and was not in the building during their likely infectious period.
Additionally, an employee at Library Headquarters also recently tested positive for the virus. Library Headquarters is not a public facility.
Library staff notified health department officials who, based on the data provided, determined that no library customer or staff member require contact tracing.
The Department of Health determined that library staff and customers have been following proper health and safety protocols; and the library and its headquarters are able to remain open. The precautions include required mask usage; distancing of at least six feet; sneeze guards at points of interaction; very limited numbers of customers in the building at one time and enhanced cleaning.
Anne Arundel County has a Public Safety Order that requires the use of face masks in public settings. The health department also recommends that residents practice physical distancing, wash their hands often, and get tested immediately if they have any concerns about exposure or if they have any symptoms of COVID-19.
